Abstract

The Eucharist for Filipino Christians is a source of Unity in Christian life. In the Philippines, Filipinos used to attend masses together with their family. There were some anecdotes from some tricycle drivers that a factor in their non-participation in the Eucharist is not entirely due to their lack of faith but due to a language barrier. This research aims to explore the behavior of tricycle drivers from Barangay San Vicente and Barangay Krus na Ligas, Quezon City, Philippines who attend and do not attend masses due to language barriers in their parish. Specifically, the study will focus on the attitude of the tricycle drivers toward the mass, the affective aspect of the attitude, and their behavior. The study will be conducted in two selected parishes, Holy Cross Parish and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, in the Diocese of Cubao, Philippines, where tricycle drivers are a significant part of the community. Interviews and focus group discussions with tricycle drivers will be conducted to gather their perspectives on the language barrier and its impact on their religious practices. The study will also explore possible solutions to address the language barrier and promote language reappropriation among tricycle drivers. The research will be beneficial to the parish community, tricycle drivers, and other stakeholders interested in promoting language reappropriation and cultural understanding. Recommendations will include implementing basic language seminars, introducing mobile translation services, and engaging in community initiatives, among others.
