Abstract

While climate change and environmental degradation are already gigantic issues facing the world, disinformation has exacerbated the problems further. Through critical analysis and reflection, this paper explores the strategies and lessons offered by Fratelli Tutti in addressing the environmental challenges presented by Laudato Si. Pope Francis emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to environmental issues that recognizes the interconnectedness of all beings and the importance of shared responsibility. The encyclical highlights the role of dialogue and communication in addressing environmental challenges, calling on individuals and communities to work together towards a common goal of ecological sustainability. The paper argues that the lessons and strategies offered by Fratelli Tutti are responsive to the vicious methods of disinformation peddlers. The paper emphasizes the importance of rejecting the language of hate and intolerance in environmental communication. It argues that environmental issues can be polarizing and divisive and that we must be careful to avoid demonizing those who disagree. The paper argues that by adopting a language of respect and empathy, we can build bridges and foster collaboration around shared environmental goals.
