Abstract

In our present time, we see the fast deterioration of the environment, our common home. It should be our collective responsibility as stewards to respond to the cries of creation. The human being is mandated by God to take care of the environment. The Church, as the people of God, continuously informs the faithful of their duty to protect the earth. Taking note that Catholic academic institutions play a significant role in raising awareness and giving instructions in taking care of the environment, this research aims to highlight how Notre Dame of Marbel University’s Religious Education integrates care for creation in its curriculum. This research will begin by presenting recent Church pronouncements on the care for the environment culminating in Laudato Si’ and the role of institutions. Stemming from educational institutions, the study will then expound on Norte Dame of Marbel University’s Green University Program and its influence on the Pastoral Integration program of the Religious Education Curriculum. In conclusion, academic instruction through Religious Education is one of the best ways for students to collectively respond to the voice of creation as they initiate different advocacies in taking care of our common home.
