Abstract

Environmental stewardship is one of the key concepts in education campaigns for ecological sustainability in school settings. This concept is crucial for building the right perspectives and needed motivation to address the climate emergency. This paper discusses the preliminary literary basis for identifying “pamagmasabal” as a Kapampangan appropriation of environmental stewardship. Using de Mesa’s Cultural Exegesis as an analytical framework, our investigation is basically founded on an argument that peculiar differing regional notions of stewardship uniquely influence thinking and behavior. This paper is part of a more considerable study that investigates the empirical basis of pamagmasabal as a contemporary Kapampangan concept corresponding to environmental stewardship. We primarily source our analysis from relevant local and foreign literature. From our analysis, pamagmasabal is an appropriate notion for interpreting ecological stewardship for the Kapampangan audience.
