Abstract

The paper examines the biblical basis for environmental protection in light of a particular text in the Bible that emphasizes the importance of caring for the natural world. Drawing on the book of Psalms, specifically Psalm 24:1-2, the paper highlights the potential of scripture to inspire and guide individuals towards environmental stewardship.

It begins by discussing the environmental destructions facing the planet, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, and the urgent need for individuals and communities to take action. It then considers how Psalm 24:1-2 provides a theological basis for understanding humanity's relationship with the natural world, emphasizing the concept that the earth belongs to God and that humans are called to be stewards of the earth.

It examines how Psalm 24:1-2 promotes environmental protection. It discusses the concept of stewardship and caretaking, highlighting the importance of viewing the natural world as a sacred trust that humans must protect. The paper also emphasizes the importance of recognizing the interconnectedness of all life and the need for humans to act with humility and respect toward the natural world.

Finally, the paper considers the potential of Psalm 24:1-2 to inspire action towards environmental protection and sustainability. It provides examples of individuals and communities who have been motivated by their faith to take concrete steps toward environmental stewardship, such as engaging in sustainable agriculture, promoting renewable energy, and advocating for policies that prioritize the environment. Overall, this paper underscores the potential of scripture, specifically Psalm 24:1-2, to inspire and guide individuals towards environmental stewardship and sustainability. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing the sacredness of the natural world and the responsibility that humans have to protect it. The paper also highlights the potential for religious communities to work towards a common goal of environmental protection and to promote a more just and sustainable future for all.
