Abstract

This study will explore the potential of Religious Education in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability among Catholic Senior High School students in Cebu City, Philippines. Through qualitative methodology, this research will gather data from students attending various schools in the city through semistructured interviews. Data gathered have been analyzed thematically to identify key themes related to the relationship between Religious Education and environmental awareness. This study seeks to emphasize the significance of Religious Education in shaping the attitudes, values, and behaviors of individuals toward the environment. Given the escalating environmental challenges faced by the world, such as climate change and pollution, the research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of religious education programs in promoting environmental consciousness and encouraging positive environmental behavior among students. The study highlights the importance of incorporating environmental education into religious instruction and the crucial role that religious institutions play in promoting sustainability. Through this research, it is hoped that educators and policymakers will recognize the role of Religious Education in contributing to the advancement of environmental awareness and sustainable development. Furthermore, it is expected that the findings of this research will provide valuable insights to educators, religious leaders, and policymakers in designing more effective and impactful environmental education programs in the context of religious education.
