Archiving

Hitik: International Journal of Catechists and Religious Educators is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, integrity, accessibility, and availability of its published scholarly content through reliable digital archiving systems and preservation infrastructures.

Preservation Infrastructure

The journal participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a digital preservation service developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), to guarantee continued access to published research even in cases of technical failure, data corruption, or catastrophic data loss.

About the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

The PKP Preservation Network is a free preservation service for journals using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. It utilizes a distributed preservation model powered by the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) technology framework.

Through geographically distributed LOCKSS nodes, preserved journal content is continuously verified, monitored, and replicated to ensure the integrity, authenticity, and long-term recoverability of scholarly materials.

This preservation strategy safeguards scholarly publications against:

  • Server failures and hardware damage;
  • Website outages and cyber incidents;
  • Data corruption or accidental deletion;
  • Institutional or infrastructure disruptions;
  • Long-term technological obsolescence.

Implementation in the Journal

Through the PKP PN Plugin integrated into the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, the journal has enabled automated participation in the preservation network.

This implementation includes:

Automated Archiving All published articles are automatically deposited into the PKP PN preservation infrastructure.
Integrity Verification LOCKSS nodes continuously verify stored content to prevent corruption and unauthorized alterations.
Reliable Restoration Preserved copies may be used to restore journal content in cases of data loss or technical disruption.

Why Archiving Matters

Digital preservation is essential to maintaining the continuity, accessibility, and scholarly reliability of academic publications.

Through participation in PKP PN and related preservation initiatives, the journal ensures that:

  • Published research remains permanently accessible to scholars, educators, catechists, and researchers worldwide;
  • Scholarly contributions are preserved against technological and infrastructural risks;
  • The integrity and authenticity of academic records are maintained over time;
  • Authors’ works remain discoverable and citable in the future.

LOCKSS and CLOCKSS Manifest Pages

The journal maintains preservation manifest pages for LOCKSS and CLOCKSS systems.

Additional Preservation Measures

In addition to PKP PN participation, the journal maintains supplementary preservation mechanisms to support content redundancy and continuity, including:

  • Secure cloud-based storage systems;
  • Institutional repository backups;
  • Local and external storage redundancy;
  • Editorial archival records and metadata preservation.
